The Betrayal

I was led to believe she would be living a dream life: a house with a garden and large balcony, three children to play with, and a wealthy family in a safe neighborhood. Everything was a big lie wich my ex boyfriend told me and in my vulnerability, I believed him.

I never wanted to give her away; I was looking for tickets for next days flights to return to her, but my friends pressured me, calling me "selfish" if i didn't give her away for her own safety. At that time, I was grappling with my health—discovering a brain cyst after a seizure, which sent me to emergency care. I just wanted to know she will be safe, but they lied to me, took her away, and it’s an injustice I can’t accept. I longed to have her with me in the Netherlands, and I even had her passport, but no one told me it was impossible to find a home that would accept dogs, in special for an immigrant. I just wanted to start a new life with her in other country where i would have access to my medical needs.

She lives in a dark apartment in center of Athens, sitting alone behind closed curtains, who appears depressed. She doesn’t have access to a balcony, toys, walks durring the day, or money to buy her food, which she has to eat special food. They send me a video of her eating French fries and other with ice cream, things she’s not supposed to have, and they don’t even know what she is not allowed to eat. She doesn’t understand anymore commands that i teach her , or how to meet her needs; she spends her time sleeping or sitting in a corner, her sad eyes filled with melancholy and fear.

Their financial situation is dire, leaving Lucy without access to air conditioning or any cooling sources during the scorching Greek summer, in center of Athens. I have heartbreacking video of her lying on the floor, burely breathing and unresponsive from heat. It is clear theay cannot afford her basic needs, and she is suffering physically because of it.

She’s living the nightmare that every dog fears. doesn’t get the proper food she needs. They treat her like a toy, not a living, breathing soul. I asked the kid how many times she goes out because i saw something is wrong with her, and he said twice a day for fifteen minutes. But that is a lie. She’s only outside to pee, then brought back inside. When I take her to the place she pee, from the door, her eyes was like when is in dark to light and disperated run to pee near the main road a place with few benches dirty place and noisy street, but she quickly looks lost and eager to go back inside. She’s learned to accept that limited life. She seems she dont know about walks.

I recently discovered that she is pregnant, which only heightens my worries. She has not been spayed. Her current caretaker cannot afford this mandatory procedure, violating law and putting her at risk of further suffering.

I fear they will sell the puppies or abandon them on the streets, as they lack the money to spay her or ensure her health. They are also unable to care for the puppies properly. This breed is prone to depression, and I am devastated knowing they will take her babies away. I’ve repeatedly wanted to bring her back, but they refuse, claiming the small baby will cry.

I contact animal protection in Athens, but they told me they cannot intervene because I voluntary gave Lucy to these people. However, this commit does not give the new holders the right to neglect her. Regardless of who handed her over, she is currently being subjected to illegal living conditions, medical neglect, and extreme heat distress.

Once radiating joy, Lucy, a 3-year-old Golden Retriver, is now trapped in a dark Athens center apartment. Manipulated during a health crisis I believed she was promised a safe haven-a lie that led her neglect. She suffers from medical and financial neglect, facing dangerous heat and non-compliance with Greek mandatory sterilization laws. Help me bring her home safety. She is pregnant ,violating Greek law and putting her at risk of further suffering.
